Hackathon

The challenge begins: students from different schools get involved, using technology to improve life in the community

Cyber Theft Simulation Game in collaboration with the young people from Fondazione ITS – JobsAcademy

The young people were divided into five teams: in the first part of the Hackathon, each team had to answer a test consisting of multiple-choice and open-ended questions on topics related to cyber security.
We then asked the five teams (Star, Light, Focus, Game and Rocket) to imagine they were ethical hackers and simulate a cyber attack on a pharmaceutical company, with the aim of accessing sensitive data, starting with patient records, moving on to research results, and ending with sales information.

In tackling the simulation, a series of questions had to be considered:

  • What vulnerabilities can be exploited to access company data?
  • What tools and techniques could be used to breach company security?
  • What could be the consequences of the attack for the company and its customers/patients?
  • How could the company prevent future attacks?

The activity was organised in collaboration with Ethical Hacker Matteo Cuscusa and coordinated by Stefano Lorenzi and Massimo Brugnoli, respectively SOC Manager and BU Cyber Security Manager at WeAreProject.

The winning team of the Hackathon was announced at the “Cyber Security & Sustainability, Challenges for the future” summit, held in Caravaggio (BG) on 24 May. The prize was awarded to Team Rocket, composed of Federico Bonomi, Ivan Campana, Mario Cantale, Simone Mecca and Claudio Pasinelli.

The choice of the winning team was dictated by the fact that Team Rocket presented an accurate, convincing and detailed simulation of the attack: it scrupulously addressed both the initial analysis, detailing the motivation behind the choice of target (without aiming too high, but not too low either), and the attack on the company, finally hypothesising a remediation by the affected organisation that should serve as a stimulus for continuous improvement in the area of Security.”

The project

Ideas4Future

Starting in November 2023, we have dedicated part of our efforts to the Ideas4Future project at ITI Marconi in Dalmine.
The students at the institute are working on applying the Design Thinking model to the challenge that our organisation has presented them with, which is closely linked to the issue of gender equality, something that is very important to our company.

In January 2024, our Gender Equality Committee joined the students at their various work tables to listen to their project ideas, which had to answer a question.

The question:

There are many stereotypes about the jobs and professions of the future, and it seems that there are jobs and professions only for women and only for men.

How can we work on this issue?
Imagine and design solutions that can resolve or mitigate gender differences in access to the world of work.
